Diabetes

We treat the whole patient, not the disease

30.3 MILLION Americans Have Diabetes

(26% of the population 1 in 4)
Another 7.2 million remain undiagnosed

Hypoglycemia, Type 1 Diabetes, LADA (Autoimmune Type 1.5), Type 2 (Adult Onset), The heart of our approach to diabetes is simple: we don’t guess – we test! This foundational principle is where we begin to dig in and find the root cause of a patient’s symptoms. We work together to develop a treatment plan that uses natural solutions for lasting results.

Diabetes is one of the most common diseases in the United States today, yet it remains poorly managed in the medical community.
The Standard American Diet (SAD) has the average American consuming between 150-170 pounds of sugar each year. We know that sugar, refined carbohydrates, chemicals, toxins, infections, medications, immune triggers can spike inflammation, which is at the root of many diseases, including diabetes.

To prevent, reverse, and manage diabetes, we must first properly identify what stage or type of diabetes is present and educate and empower individuals in the proper diet lifestyle, nutrition, and avoidance strategies for optimum outcomes. Your body is unique, and your needs will differ from other patients’ needs. We customize your program based on YOU to create an environment that will allow your body to heal naturally.

Diabetes: A Closer Look

Diabetes is the fastest growing disease in the world. Metabolic syndrome, or pre-diabetes, is the fastest rising epidemic on the planet today. This condition is characterized by:

  •  Obesity
  •  Insulin Resistance
  •  Dyslipidemia
  •  Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  •  High Insulin
  • Autoimmunity

Obesity, hypertension, and high cholesterol (especially triglycerides), and high blood insulin levels are all risk factors for developing diabetes. One in four American adults suffer from metabolic syndrome and will be diagnosed with diabetes.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), one in three children born today in the United States will develop type 2 diabetes. With such alarming statistics, something MUST change!

The Functional Medicine Approach

Research shows that a lifestyle disease such as type 2 diabetes is reversible AND preventable.

Although type 2 diabetes is much easier to reverse if diagnosed in the early stages, most cases can be reversed using strategic lifestyle modifications. Type 1 or LADA Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults is becoming much more common and requires management on many different levels as it relates to autoimmunity.

At The Highland Wellness Center, we treat the whole person, not just symptoms. In our clinics, we focus on diet, lifestyle,  nutrition, functional labs, and addressing the autoimmune factors. Since no two patients are the same, each treatment program is customized to suit each person’s unique needs.

Diabetes disrupts all aspects of human physiology. It increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, cognitive decline, and virtually every other disease.

With 28 years of experience, patients have had great success lowering their blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, and  A1c to below diabetic numbers!
