Perhaps you don\u2019t think you need to relax. It\u2019s not really your thing. You might be one of the people that feel they only need 5-6 hours of sleep each night and that you don\u2019t have any problems or health concerns. Maybe you are someone that doesn\u2019t nap or rest during the day, ever. Instead of resting you feel restless.<\/p><p class=\"\">Let me first share with you that I understand how you feel. I have had so many practice members that shared that same sentiment with me. What I try to help them understand is this. Relaxation is important to do on a regular basis. Not making time to relax or sleep, and continuing to push yourself for months and years at a time that is what creates disease. A decade of inadequate rest in your 30\u2019s creates hypertension, weight gain and pre-diabetes in your 40\u2019s or 50\u2019s or 60\u2019s.<\/p><p class=\"\">I know that we attribute those things to getting older or our genes, BUT the number one reason for symptoms is more to do with the nutrient deficiencies that are created from pushing ourselves past our normal limits and our bodies compensation for the extra work, until the just can\u2019t compensate any more \u2013 that\u2019s when we notice disease. It\u2019s when we notice our energy level has decreased or we\u2019ve gained weight slowly or quickly. It\u2019s when we go to the doctor and we used to be \u201chealthy\u201d and now we are diagnosed with diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and the like.<\/p><p class=\"\">It is unfortunate that we don\u2019t connect how important relaxation is to our health until we get sick. The good news is we can reverse our illnesses due to stress and lack of relaxation. We start by finding out what nutrients we are missing and how out of whack our stress hormones have gotten.
