How Nutrition Affects Sleep

I have, to be honest, I am not a fan of sleepless nights, I need a full night’s rest otherwise I wake up feeling a little bit off — not quite myself for the rest of the day. Between the tossing and turning trying to get settled  and that feeling of being only half-asleep and not getting to that deep restful sleep, it’s the worst.

“Diet and nutrition can influence the quality of your sleep, and certain foods and drinks can make it easier or harder to get the sleep that you need. At the same time, getting enough sleep is associated with maintaining a healthier body weight and can be beneficial for people who are trying to lose weight.” says Eric Suni, Staff Writer at the Sleep Foundation, Medically Reviewed by Kimberly Truong, Sleep Physician

I wanted to talk about how to improve your sleep and how to get that quality sleep you might be missing out on.

So, if you are suffering from sleepless nights, you might want to think about how to get better sleep, overall..

Especially in the last year, my patients have increasingly included sleep disturbances as one of their top concerns. It certainly has been one of my issues in the last year. No one needs one more thing to throw off our sleep.

Poor sleep causes so many other issues in our body. Sleep disturbances can exacerbate insulin resistance, weight gain, high blood pressure and high cholesterol issues. Sleep has a huge effect on fatigue as well.
