How ComHealthcare is more Transparent When it Comes to Claims and Coverage

The founder of ComHealthcare started his career in the health insurance industry. He saw firsthand how companies would find excuses to deny claims to meet quotas and boost profits. This didn’t seem fair to the customer. After all, isn’t the customer supposed to take first priority?

Insurance companies boost margins by nitpicking the fine print of their policies. They classify some services under a pre-existing condition, saving a few bucks while denying you important care. Or they simply exclude entire industries like chiropractic and vision.

Access Plans, however, flip the script. While we don’t cover every service, we try to be as clear as possible as to what is and isn’t included under your plan. Here are four ways we avoid common insurance claim frustrations.

  1. Pre-existing conditions: Insurance companies may deny coverage for medical conditions that were present before the policy was purchased. This means that if you have a medical condition that is considered a pre-existing condition, the insurance company may not cover the costs associated with treating that condition.

ComHealthcare, however, does not take pre-existing conditions into account.

  2. Exclusions in the policy: Health insurance policies have specific terms and conditions that define what is and is not covered. If the medical service or treatment is not covered under the policy, the insurance company may deny coverage.

The issue with most exclusions is that they are hidden within the fine print of the insurance policy. ComHealthcare publicly posts our discounted services so that you can always check to see what is and isn’t covered.

  3. Lack of medical necessity: Insurance companies may deny coverage if they determine that a medical service or treatment is not medically necessary. For example, if a patient wants cosmetic surgery that is not required for medical reasons, the insurance company may deny coverage.

Services should either be covered or not covered. Access Plans won’t put you at the whim of some administrator who gets to decide whether or not service is “necessary” or not.

  4. Failure to meet policy requirements: Insurance companies may deny coverage if the policyholder fails to meet certain requirements. For example, if the policy requires that the patient receive a referral from their primary care physician before seeing a specialist, and they don’t get the referral, the insurance company may deny coverage.

ComHealthcare does not require referrals. You are free to visit any of the providers that are in our network.
